iPhone Game Developer Admits His Game Wasn’t really “simple yet addicting”
iPhone game developer decides to play it straight with game descriptions.
Bardstown, Ky. - While it’s not uncommon for iPhone game developers to provide inaccurate and sensationalized descriptions of their games, one developer is apologizing for his part in the dubious tactic. In a recent interview, Danny Cortland of Bardstown Kentucky admitted he commonly described his games as “simple yet addicting” even though his friends and family didn’t think they were. “Everyone said my games sucked, but I didn’t care.” said Cotland. “I wanted them to sound they were going to be the next Tetris or something. ” Danny’s fraudulently described games did pretty well on the iTunes App Store receiving an average of 4 Stars with comments such as, “Ch3ck me out on YouTube” and “Most amazing game ever!!!”. Danny said he was feeling pretty good about things until he saw a particular comment posted about his game, “Find the Red Circle.” The comment came from a 12 year old girl who had saved up for three months to purchase the game as a Father’s day gift. “When I read that little girl’s comment about how she couldn’t get the game to load all the time, didn’t understand why it only had one level, no sound and no menu . . .my heart kinda broke a little.” Danny confessed it was after the girl’s comment that he decided to play it straight with his game descriptions. “I now describe my games for what they are . . .poor remakes of puzzles whose rules I couldn’t quite figure out how to program.” When asked how the more honest descriptions have affected his sales Cortland said, “They’ve actually gone up, I think people are buying the games because they think my brutally honest descriptions are a joke.”
