Tunnels is a free arcade style game that puts you in control of a ship flying through a tunnel. The object of tunnels is to stay alive for as long as possible. To stay alive pilots use one of the ships two controls to move left or right being careful to avoiding contact with the tunnel walls. If you crash into a wall your game is immediately over. Tunnels contains four levels of difficult which control the speed that your ships moves through the tunnels.

This game reminds of Cube Runner minus the great controls and interesting environment. The game has only a few graphics and no sound. The graphics it does have are all overly simplistic and drab. Controlling your ship is done using two gigantic buttons located near the upper left and right of your screen. There are no tilt controls or any other controls to speak of in the game. Even with all these problems Tunnels could have been mildly entertaining if it weren’t so difficult. I’m not talking about the good kind of difficulty where you are challenged to improve your skills and rewarded when you do so. I’m talking about the repetitive, meaningless, frustrating, tedious kind of difficult that makes you just a little sad inside. The margin for error in tunnels is very small even on the slowest level. The difficulty wouldn’t be such a problem if there was any sort of pacing to the tunnels. Mixing in wide open easy sections with tight difficult sections would have added some playability to the tunnels.

Tunnels is a tedious game with poor graphics, no sound and very few features. I do appreciate the developer releasing Tunnels for free because there are plenty of people who would have thrown a $.99 price tag on it. With a lot of work I think tunnels could be something worth playing, as it stands, I would pass on this freebie.
